Sleep Well, Sweet Kitty

Lawyer Mama with PandoraIt's over.

We brought Pandy home on Friday morning after her blood tests were a little better. She did really well on Saturday and then on Sunday became lethargic again.

She stopped eating and drinking. Yesterday we discovered that she could no longer walk. I caught her trying to drag herself across the floor to her litter box.

I made an appointment to go see the vet on Tuesday morning, but we won't be needing it.

I sat up with Pandy after everyone went to bed because she was breathing pretty heavily. I put her in the living room to sleep in front of the fireplace on a bed of soft towels. About 20 minutes ago, I heard her choking and ran in to see that Pandy had dragged herself off of the carpet and thrown up all of her medication.

While I was wiping everything up and cleaning her paws, she stopped breathing.

  3. Oh, I know how hard this must be. I hope the boys are alright. And you. She was trying to be a good cat right til the end, and you were taking care of her, so she did not die alone.

  20. I am sooo sorry. I totally know how how you feel. I had to put two cats to sleep this past year. Both of them were VERY old and sick, but it doesn't make it any easier. But you were with her until the very end, and that is really special.

  24. Oh, I am so sorry. I can imagine how sad this is for you. It's nice that she was at home and with you. It's really hard to lose furry members of our families. My thoughts are with you.

  25. Sorry for your loss, LM. Losing a member of the family, two-legged or four, is never easy.

  26. Ugh. I'm so sorry, S. I am still haunted by the memory of putting one of our cats down. The thing that made it bareable was knowing she couldn't feel anything. Having to witness that must be so heartbreaking. It brings tears to my eyes.

That's a beautiful picture. I hope the boys are too young to be too sad. I dread the day when our current cat has his last day-- he belongs to my 8-year old.

You lost your cat on my wedding anniversary.

  31. Oh sweetie, I'm so sorry. My own cat moved on to that great scratching post in the sky this past summer so I really do feel you. I think you're really lucky that you were there with her and not in some vet's office. RIP Pandora.

  36. there is no pain that compares to saying goodbye to a cat - or that describes th empty place they leave behind.
