Things You Shouldn't See on October 6th

I'm still dealing with sickness and whiny children here in the happy land of Lawyer Mama. I'm trying to distract you from noticing that I still haven't posted the meme post and that I owe some of you interview questions. Look! Over there! Something bright and shiny!

Seen on Saturday in Lowe's:

It was October 6th, people. October 6th! Heard from Hollis, who was clearly creeped out by all the inflatable pseudo-Christmas tackiness hanging from the ceiling, "Mommy, I don't like this." Neither do I, sweet boy. Neither do I. (I apologize for the crappiness of the photos. They were taken with T's ancient camera phone.)

According to H&H, this is clearly the only reason one should ever enter Lowe's or Home Depot:

I'm sure all the parents whose kids climbed on that afterward will thank us for the germs.

  1. I'm with you.....I LOVE Christmas...but it seems that the decorations come out earlier and earlier each year!

Hope the H's feel better soon!

  3. Christmas!!!??? NO!!!!! *runs and hides from the ensuing begging, buying, and present anxiety*

  4. NOOOOOOO!

I would support a constitutional amendment restricting retail displays until the previous holiday. No Valentine's until after Super Bowl, and no Christmas until after Thanksgiving, etc.

  5. That just drives me nuts. After Thanksgiving. Then I will think about Xmas.

  6. Um, who's in charge of seasonal decorations over there? Not. right.

  7. Yeah, went into Morrison's (a local grocery store) today on my way home and they had just put out their Christmas card display. Pretty ballsy, I thought, considering there's a postal strike going on. Of course, when one ponders how long Royal Mail usually takes to deliver the post, maybe Morrison's knows something I don't! :-0

  8. I'm with you.

Especially when it is October 8th and 85 degrees out in Wisconsin!

    Who does this???

  9. Oh yeah, K. I hear you. Notice the boys are wearing shorts?

  10. That is EXACTLY what I said to Josh when we were out this weekend. It was like this in two separate stores! Halloween isn't even over yet. It's craziness.

  11. Pretty soon they'll have to just leave the x-mas stuff up year 'round! UGH!!!!

  13. GAW! So wrong.

They were hanging Christmas lights on the nearby pedestrian mall and walkways yesterday over here, too. And shelves in a number of shops are already being stocked with Christmas stuff. Truly horrifying.

  15. OK, I don't celebrate Christmas, so maybe I got the order wrong. But, I thought it went Halloween, Thanksgiving, then Christmas.

  16. Tell sweet Hollis that the inflatable Christmas lawn decor creeps me out too- especially the ones that move and play music.
I'm not saying that I DID "accidentally" let my dog chew a hole in my neighbor's Christmas Pooh carousel... but I wasn't exactly out looking for the perpetrator.
I mean... that's why neighborhoods have by-laws... just sayin'...

  17. I felt weird bringing out the Halloween stuff at the end of September...this just gives me the dry heaves. Another Macy's Christmas! Coming up! With a side of credit-card debt, please.

I like your new look, btw.

  18. My hubs went to Lowe's looking for Halloween stuff and was bombarded with the Xmas hoo ha. Gimme a break, will ya. Is it any wonder many of us are getting freaked out by the holiday?

By the way, like the new look but miss all the pretty flowers. I loves me some pretty flowers. Pretty little petals everywhere -- that was a brief stroke of insanity brought to you by Queeny.

    Get well, ya'll.

  19. Christmas in October takes the wind out of the sails ... I wish retail would wait until after Halloween.

ps ... your make-over looks really nice.

  20. Such a cute pic of the kids...sorry they're all snotty and such.

Yep, I love me some Christmas, but when I see crap up before Halloween, it makes me want to take a blow-torch to it all.

HO-HO-HO!!! YOUR CHRISTMAS CRAP IS GOIN' DOWN, SISTER!!!

  22. That totally sucks rocks. I blame it solely on the marketing folks. :)

  23. I know you aren't going to believe me. But last night, out walking, I watched some woman erecting her tree in her front room. If you don't believe me, swear to God, you can email my walking partner and she'll confirm.

Somebody better have had a soldier coming home on leave. That's all I have to say.

  24. Love the holiday season... when it IS the holiday season. When I'm shopping in my shorts and sandals and there's a Christmas tree staring at me, something isn't right.

Love the new blog look, by the way!

  25. But do you see anyone buying that stuff? I've come across a few displays and it seems to be universally repugnant.

Sad confession time: I started shopping for Christmas in June. Just because for the last three years I've been completely stumped for presents for the kids come late November and early December. Of course, I then went and put them in a very very clever hiding place - which I've now forgotten. Go ME. I suck!
